Bagua | Print |

Baguazhang is one of the three internal fighting styles of Chinese Gong Fu. The method is based on the principle of constant change in response to a situation in order to overcome one’s opponent by way of skill and not by way of strength. It combines fighting with open hand techniques and practice of meditative walking in a circle. The aim of the method is to teach the trainee to have control over movement and its’ timing in order to create “complete body strength”, which enables all parts of the body to work in unison. Baguazhang emphasizes work with a relaxed body, correct skeletal posture and movement in harmony with the natural reflexes of the body, with all movements controlled by intention. The Bagua fighter searches for the weaknesses in his opponent and avoids frontal confrontation of strength versus strength. Encircling and diverting the incoming strength or resistance of the opponent and entrance from different angles gives even small or weak fighters an advantage in a confrontation, and effective use of his strength.
